Bristol Strategy Group grew out of the vision of our
founder and president, Ellen Bristol. After a 20-year career in
corporate sales, Ellen came to believe that conventional selling
models were insufficient to meet the demands and potential of contemporary
enterprises. Her primary insight was that sales is a strategic function
historically managed as a tactical one.
This insight led to the development of a methodological
approach to the business-development function that stems from formal
process disciplines, going back to the quality-management work of
Deming and Juran, and forward to the utilization of Six-Sigma-style
process analysis.
Starting in 1995, we embarked on an initiative to
re-define the sales process, based on original research and client
partnerships, that has resulted in our flagship sales architecture
Selling the SMART Way® and its variants Selling the SMART Way®
for Lawyers and Fundraising the SMART Way®.
The SMART Way model is industry-neutral, which means
that it applies to virtually any sales organization meeting these
conditions:
- Where the sale is business to business
- Where the sale is a complex solution with a longer
sales cycle
- Where major account relationships are critical
to the success of the enterprise
- Where long-term customer retention is a core strategy,
and
- Where there is a need and desire to keep the turnover
of sales talent at a minimum
